Zedda Piras Filu ‘e ferru

Zedda Piras Filu 'e ferruOk, this is some unbelievable stuff. Coming from the sunny island of Sardinia, Italy, filu ‘e ferru (Sardinian word for wirework) is a strong marc liquor with a fantastic wild fennel aftertaste. The bottle is covered in cork, and the lady and the gentleman on the cover are wearing some typical suits from Orgosolo (a small town Sardinia).

Why filu ‘e ferru? Back in the day when this stuff wasn’t legal (especially during the first years in the history of the Kingdom of Italy) the people who were making it used to hide barrels in the ground and leave a small piece of wire exposed to mark their position, for easy retrieval.
